Vegan Makeup for Animal Lovers
Today it is easier than ever to do your makeup in a way that is not only cruelty-free, but also uses no animal by-products. There is no reason to sacrifice the health or safety of an animal for the sake of beauty. But with many "mainstream" brands making the vegan claim, it can be a little disheartening to read the ingredients list. Some brands substitute synthetic waxes for things like beeswax, or synthetic dyes for carmine. We don't believe you should have to sacrifice "natural" to get to "vegan," so here's a full look that is completely vegan but that also relies heavily on natural or at least non-toxic ingredients. (Note: for this article, we have also tried to pick products that come from vegan brands, as opposed to cruelty-free brands with some vegan products.)
If you love multi-purpose products, HAN Skin Care Cosmetics has just the thing for you, their Concealer ($18) can be applied directly with the wand to your under-eye area, as well as any blemishes you wish to conceal, but the real beauty of it is that you can mix the concealer with a little moisturizer and use it as a lightweight foundation. Follow this with Hush & Dotti Sublime Luminizer ($32) on tops of cheekbones, brow bones, and down the center of the face for glow without glitter.
Blend a bit of Cheek and Lip Tint from HAN Skin Care Cosmetics ($16) to the apples of your cheeks, and put it aside to add to lips later on. The Rose Berry shade is flattering on almost every skin tone, because it is easy to dab on just a touch, or blend on another layer for darker skin.
Pacifica Beauty offers a selection of beautiful, vegan eyeshadow palettes, but the Pink Nudes Mineral Eyeshadows ($18) is consistently a best-seller because of it's complete wearability. With this palette and two brush duos from Real Techniques, the InstaPop Eye Duo ($9.99) and the Eye Detail + Define ($8.99), you can create many different looks. Pro-tip: use the darker shades of the palette as your eyeliner, with the Detail + Define brushes. Dampen your brush with water first, for a dramatic look, or use with a dry brush for a subtle smudge of color.
Lengthen your lashes with Pacifica Beauty's Dream Big Lash Extending 7 in 1 Mascara ($16). This formula offers seven different benefits, but the amazing, adjustable brush is where the magic really happens. Tease your brows into shape with Juice Beauty Phyto Pigments Brow Envy Gel ($22), available in 3 shades. Next, prep your lips for color with the most delicious vegan lip balm ever, HURRAW! Balm ($4.29) These raw vegan lip balms come in a myriad of flavors (Papaya Pineapple? Yes, please!) that really hydrate your lips. You can then put your HAN Cheek and Lip Tint over the top, or you can select one of the HURRAW! Balms that has a hint of vegetable-derived color, like Black Cherry or Echium Raspberry.
And for the final step, regardless of the weather, set your look while you protect your skin from the sun's damaging rays by dusting a generous amount of BRUSH ON BLOCK® SPF 30 Translucent Mineral Powder Sunscreen over your entire face, neck, arms and hands. Your skin will thank you for the protection.
Now you're done, and all of these items will fit handily into a medium-sized makeup bag so you can take your vegan-friendly look with you, wherever you may go!
