Sheer Genius SPF 50 Untinted Gets an Upgrade
Time flies! Nearly two years ago, we introduced our first sunscreen for the face that was not a powder, and you welcomed it with open arms. Sheer Genius SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen + Moisture was recognized for the powerhouse that it is, a two-in-one product that is both your daily moisturizer and first application of sunscreen.
Then in April, we introduced a tinted version of Sheer Genius, which had two new additions, iron oxides to give it a tint that blends with every skin tone, and Hyaluronic Acid for more skin care benefits. So we thought, it’s time for the untinted version of Sheer Genius to level up, and now both formulas contain Hyaluronic Acid!
Why Hyaluronic Acid?
If you aren’t aware of all of the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), you will want to get to know it. The biggest thing it does for your skin is to moisturize it without the use of heavy oils. This is because HA molecules are like sponges, and can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water. It draws this water from the atmosphere and from the deeper layers of the skin, delivering the moisture to the outer layers that tend to get dry from exposure. This means your skin looks and feels better—more hydrated and plumped. The added moisture also supports the skin’s natural collagen and elastin, making it more firm and flexible.
Because it doesn’t have any heavy oils, and is considered to be “skin identical,” HA also won’t clog pores or give a heavy, mask-like feeling to your products.
The added HA is really the only difference from our original Sheer Genius to this one. Just like the original, it still protects from 98% of UVB light, protects the skin from free radicals and reduces the appearance of fine lines. It still includes other great moisturizing ingredients like aloe leaf juice, jojoba esters, apple fruit extract and glycerin. And it still reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Allantoin and bisabolol are there to soothe dry, irritated skin. Antioxidant Tocopherol helps protect your skin from free-radicals in the environment, meaning less visible damage in your future.
Unlike many moisturizers that include sunscreen, Sheer Genius is a mineral sunscreen. It is made with non-nano zinc oxide, and no chemical sunscreen actives whatsoever. Because that’s what we do -- mineral sunscreen and only mineral sunscreen. And we wanted to further our goals of reducing plastic waste, so we once again made this product in a tube made from sugarcane bioplastic, which means that no petroleum by-products are used to make the tube. And it is recyclable, just remove the cap and toss the tube in your recycling. (If your carrier requires sorting of plastics, it goes with #2 plastics.)
