Sunscreen only works if you use it, and keep using it.
That sounds obvious, but it’s where most sun protection breaks down in real life. Not because people don’t care, but because sunscreen is often inconvenient, unpleasant, or hard to fit into a normal day. Over time, those small barriers add up, and sun protection becomes something people intend to do rather than something they actually stick with.
At Brush On Block, everything starts with this belief: the best sunscreen is the one you’ll actually wear.
Why I Started Brush On Block
When my daughter was little, she had an allergic reaction to chemical sunscreen. Her skin broke out in hives, and I realized we needed something different, something mineral-based that wouldn't irritate her sensitive skin.
But here's what I learned: having the "right" sunscreen doesn't matter if it stays in your bag.
I watched people around me, myself included, skip sunscreen or forget to reapply because it was inconvenient, messy, or didn't fit into real life. We all knew we should protect our skin. We just weren't doing it consistently.
That's when I understood that the sunscreen problem isn't about formulation. It's about behavior.
Why Consistency Matters More Than Perfection
Most sunscreen education focuses on ideal scenarios — perfect application, the right amount, the right timing. But real life rarely looks like that.
People move through their days. They work, run errands, spend time outside, pick up kids, travel, exercise, and live in motion. Sunscreen wears off. Reapplication gets skipped. Not because people forget, but because stopping to reapply often feels unrealistic in the moment.
Consistency is what protects skin over time. Not perfection. And consistency only happens when sun protection fits naturally into everyday life.

It’s not about getting it perfect. It’s about making sun protection part of your everyday rhythm.
Designed for Real Life
We design sun protection around how people actually live, not how they’re told they should live. That means:
- Products that are easy to use
- Formats that don’t interrupt the day
- Options that support reapplication, not just reminders
- Choices that help people build habits they can maintain
Instead of asking people to work harder at sun protection, we focus on removing the reasons it gets skipped.
Apply + Reapply by Design
Most sunscreens tell you to reapply. We design for it.
Sun protection doesn’t fail because people don’t understand the rules. It fails because the tools don’t support the behavior. Making reapplication realistic — fast, simple, and accessible — is where real-world protection improves.
Different moments call for different formats. That’s why we design products that work together to support both application and reapplication throughout the day. One example of this philosophy in action is powder sunscreen, which is specifically designed to make on-the-go reapplication easier.

Sun protection works better when reapplying is simple, fast, and within reach.
When Products Support Behavior, Habits Follow
Sun protection improves when it becomes part of a routine instead of a constant decision.
When products are easy to carry, easy to apply, and easy to return to, people don’t need to be reminded to use them. They just do.
That’s why certain formats, like powder sunscreen, have become so popular. Not because they’re trendy, but because they support real-life consistency.
The Goal Isn’t More Sunscreen, It’s Better Habits
Sun care doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. It needs to be realistic.
Consistency builds protection over time. Design supports consistency. And habits form when products fit the life you already have.
That’s the idea behind everything we make, and it's reason we believe the sunscreen you’ll actually wear is the one that truly works.
