Introducing Quick Stick SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen
What could be more simple than a sunscreen stick? Easy to carry with you, even in water. Easy to apply--swipe, swipe, swipe, rub. Easy to reapply--at least every 2 hours. And that’s why Brush On Block is thrilled to announce the newest addition to our sunscreen family, Quick Stick SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen. In a stick form! Which means it is super easy to carry with you (even in water) and so fast to apply. (More on that in a moment.)
Quick Stick combines the simplicity of a stick with advances in skin care ingredients that make it your holy-grail sunscreen for your active life. The non-nano zinc leaves no white trace, it goes on completely clear. In addition to broad spectrum, water resistant (80 min) protection, it also protects skin from blue light. Quick Stick provides excellent hydration for skin, thanks to ingredients like:
- Hyaluronic Acid – helps the skin hold onto water and can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water.
- Sunflower Seed Wax – a great emollient that also helps prevent the stick from melting.
- Safflower Seed Oil – filled with great moisturizing fatty acids that nourish and moisturize the skin without contributing to acne breakouts.
- Soybean Oil – an emollient that can help repair and protect the skin’s barrier, as well as acts as an anti-inflammatory.
- Glucomannan – yes, like in Konjac sponges! Another ingredient that absorbs water and retains moisture, leaving skin more moisturized and plumped.
But that’s not all, Quick Stick also includes light-reflecting spheres that improve the look of the skin immediately. Who doesn’t love that? And the ingredient Hesperethusa Crenulata Bark Extract promotes smooth skin and may help with acne-prone skin. The formula is also loaded with more antioxidants than you can shake a (Quick) stick at!
How to use Quick Stick SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen
Like most of our Brush On Block line, Quick Stick was created with your face, neck, arms and hands in mind. The stick format makes it so easy to stripe on and blend. But in a pinch, you can also use Quick Stick on legs, back, tops of feet…anywhere you need quick sun protection. The best way to apply is to go over an area a couple of times and then blend with fingertips to make sure you didn’t miss any spots. This could be the only time you actually wish it DID have a white residue!
An Embarrassing Cautionary Tale
Quick Stick sunscreen is no joke. How can I be so sure? As a Brush On Block employee, all of us test products on ourselves to see how it is from a customer perspective. (This is completely separate from the FDA testing for SPF value and other claims.) So last summer, I brought along a Quick Stick on a little river float I did with some friends in mid-August, on an absolutely stunning Pacific Northwest day. Everyone wanted to try it, we passed it around. By the time it got back to me, the floaties had all been inflated, and everyone was ready to jump in the water. So I quickly striped the front of my legs, arms, neck and chest, as those were the areas that would be the most exposed. (I had Sheer Genius on my face and a hat on my head.) I popped the Quick Stick into the pocket of my shorts, and off we went.
We had never floated this particular stretch of this particular river before, so I wasn’t aware how long we’d be in the water, nor how difficult it would be to stop along the way to reapply sunscreen. As we went along, I began to feel the sun above my knees and on my arms, so I pulled out the Quick Stick and reapplied in those areas. (Yes, my pocket was wet, the stick was fine.) But I could not reach my lower legs without standing up, and there was no opportunity for that.
At the end of the trip, we got out of the water and I looked at my lower legs. I looked like a diseased zebra…all of the places I had applied Quick Stick were my normal PNW shade of pale. All of the areas I missed were sadly, bright red. All of the places I reapplied were also normal colored. My friends, who had more time to apply, were also their normal colors. Gradually the pain (and humiliation) of the sunburn faded, but today, you can still see darker stripes and lighter stripes on my legs. So please, let my mistake be a lesson to you…blend with your hand after applying, so that any spots you may have missed get covered!
