Another Way to be Sun-Safe this Summer
During the Pandemic, everyone had a lot of time to think, and one thing the Brush On Block staff thought a lot about was--what can we do for our loyal Brush On Block customers so that they can protect their whole bodies from UV rays, while feeling confident that the product they are using meets the same high standards that their Brush On Block Mineral Powder sunscreen does? We have always felt that it was important to offer a product that made it easy for customer to protect their face, neck, arms and hands, and a natural extension of that was to protect lips with mineral sunscreen actives in our Protective Lip Oil, but that leaves a lot of the body still needing protection.
Now we are thrilled to offer one more way to protect your skin from UV rays, our new Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, made with non-nano zinc oxide! This lotion had us hooked from the first lab sample, not only is it moisturizing, but it really, truly does disappear on the skin…something all too rare with mineral actives in a lotion form.
Some people have asked us why we needed to offer a sunscreen lotion, since our Mineral Powder Sunscreen SPF 30 works so well. We didn’t need to, but we thought it was a good idea for a few reasons:
- Our powder sunscreen is fantastic, but not everyone likes wearing a powder. We want to have an option for everyone.
- Customers often ask if they can wear our powder sunscreen all over their body. We tell them they can, but that it will take quite a while to apply. Much like painting the Golden Gate Bridge, as soon as they finished, it would be almost time to start over again! The lotion is faster and easier to apply to the body.
- Some people like to layer their sunscreen, start out with a lotion on the face, and then after 2 hours (or 80 minutes of swimming/sweating) refresh their coverage with our powder. This allows them to do that with a product from a brand that they trust.
Aside from the fact that it virtually disappears when rubbed in, what makes our new Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 great?
Mineral Sunscreen Actives
As you might already know, the FDA has stated that only the mineral sunscreen actives (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) are GRASE—Generally Recognized As Safe & Effective. Any chemical sunscreen actives (avobenzone, oxybenzone, homosalate, octinoxate and more) should have further testing to determine their safety. This product contains only non-nano sized zinc oxide, so you can count on its safety for humans.
Reef Safe
Our new Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 does not contain any chemical actives, and the zinc oxide particles are larger than nano-sized particles, so it is considered safe for coral reefs and other aquatic life. It is not banned in any states or countries, so is a great choice to put in your suitcase for your next vacation.
Skin-Loving Ingredients
The combination of coconut oil, safflower oil and jojoba oil provide moisture without a greasy or slick feeling. Coconut oil helps reduce the dryness caused by sun exposure. Safflower oil is rich in fatty acids, making it excellent for conditioning the skin, both before and after sun exposure. Jojoba oil is also loaded with fatty acids, but also contains vitamin E. This powerful combination helps keep skin strong and resilient.
The Standards You Trust
Brush On Block has always prioritized making the safest products possible. That’s why, just like all of our other products, our new Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 contains no phthalates, parabens or PABA. We make our products safe for your families and ours.
Kindness is Crucial
We love our animals, and that love extends to all animals. All of our products are cruelty-free and vegan friendly. Our new Peta “Beauty Without Bunnies” certification is your proof that we walk the walk.
Now that you know how great it is, how do you wear your new Brush On Block Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 with your Brush On Block Mineral Powder Sunscreen? We’ve got a great routine for you that we call Before, During and After.
Before
Before you head out into the sun, use your Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 all over to protect your skin. It is easier to apply a lotion before you get dressed so that you get that you are protected along all your “edges,” where your clothing ends and movement can cause exposure of unprotected skin. If you apply past where straps, sleeves and necklines end, there’s no worry about thin strips of sunburn.
During
While you are out, remember to reapply every 2 hours, or after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating. Brush On Block Mineral Powder Sunscreen SPF 30 is the easiest way to reapply on the go, just brush it on. And don’t forget your lips, which are very prone to sunburn and windburn. Protective Lip Oil SPF 32 should also be reapplied at least every 2 hours.
After
Even if you’ve been diligent about reapplication, being outdoors in the summer can take a toll on your skin, especially on your face. End your day with a few drops of Nobody’s Perfect Daily Repair Oil on your face and neck to restore balance to your skin. #ProTip, if you missed a spot with the sunscreen, anywhere on the body, Nobody’s Perfect will help calm the inflammation caused by sunburn. There’s no cure for sunburn, but a little Nobody’s Perfect should make you more comfortable.
