The season of gratitude is upon us! While you probably have your skincare regime down pat by now, we have a few extra tips that you can use to freshen up your routine—your skin will thank you!
1. Give it a rest. Yes, dry skin needs moisturized and greasy skin needs cleansed—but all skin needs a break. Too much moisturizer can clog your pores, and overusing cleansers can strip your skin of essential oils and lead to redness.
2. Add yoga. Yes, you read that right! Stress can have serious effects on your skin. When coupled with a lack of blood flow, stress can make skin dull and dry. To fight the signs of stress on your face, try doing a light yoga routine before bed. Don’t do too much or any super-involved poses, as heavy exercise before bed can make it hard to sleep. However, calming poses like downward dog can increase blood flow and reduce stress. For added relief, help release the toxins from your skin after your yoga routine with a combination of Epsom salt, sea salt and baking soda in a warm bath—the perfect end to any day.
3. Don’t skip your lips. One of the worst side effects of dry, cold winter air is chapped lips. Common symptoms include cracking, sores, bleeding and swelling, and these can be exacerbated by licking your lips to moisten them, dehydration and breathing through your mouth when your nose is stopped up. While you don’t want to get moisturizer inside your mouth, use your facial moisturizer on your lips as well. Well-hydrated lips stand up better to the cold air of winter.
